The technique of producing crackle glass can be attributed to fifteenth-century Venetians. The glass was heated, cooled, and refired so that many small lines appeared inside the glass. The cold causes cracks to form on the surface of the hot crackle glass, which is then reheated to smooth the surface and seal the cracks. It continues to be made in many factories in the United States and Europe.
